The 1.5 mile Coastal Nature Trail is a sprawling esplanade lined with native Hawaiian plants and craggy inlets. It’s a great way to wander into a nearby restaurant, and it becomes a prime spot to whale watch in winter.
There’s a quiet, secluded snorkeling spot at Polo Beach. Enjoy great views of Molokini Crater and Kahoolawe from the shore, and the honey-scented aroma of the naio flowers.
Life’s a breeze on the south shore of Maui, especially in the evenings when it gets very windy. Bring a windbreaker.
In the afternoon, the “Makena Cloud” rolls in on the South Shore. It will cover the sun for a few hours, and then you can return to your regularly-scheduled sun worship.
It’s time to go off the deep end. You can do it several times in Wailea. Dive into water so clear that you can see over 100 feet down.
