Hawaii has a number of craft beer companies. The Maui Brewing Company was one of the first, and it remains one of the best. Located in the Maui Research and Technology Park in Kihei, the Maui Brewing Company offers informative tours of its brewing facility and a chance to sample some of the best beer on the island.
Local Ingredients and Sustainability
During your guided tour of the brewery, you'll learn about the fermentation process and the emphasis the Maui Brewing Company places on sustainability and locally sourced ingredients. They were the first craft beer company to use roasted coconut in beer—a surprising ingredient that gives the company's Coconut Porter its distinctly nutty taste. They also use pineapple to add fruitiness to their Mana Wheat Ale.
As you view the massive stainless steel brewing vats, you'll discover the steps the company is taking towards sustainability, including using recyclable aluminum beer cans instead of glass and the company’s planned solar panel project, which will provide enough power to take the brewery off the grid.
Tasting the Difference
The tour starts at the Brewery Kihei Tasting Room and ends there with a beer tasting session where you get to sample such local favorites as Mana Wheat, Coconut Porter, Big Swell IPA and Bikini Blonde. You might want to hang around the tasting room for a while—there are over a dozen beers on tap.
At the end of the tour, you get to keep your beer sampling glass and take home a complementary pint of a beer of your choice. You might find yourself buying a six-pack or two as well!
Book the Maui Brewing Company Tour
The Maui Brewing Company offers VIP tours at their Kihei Tasting Room on weekends only, at 11:45 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:15 p.m. Tours are $20.00 per person and can be booked online. These guided VIP tours are available for adults and children ages 10 and up. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. No children under the age of 10 may enter the brewery, even if carried by an adult.
Aim to arrive at the brewery about 20 minutes before your tour. Ten minutes before the tour is due to start, guides will fill unclaimed reservations. Group size is kept small, with a maximum of ten people per tour.

The Maui Brewing Company is located at 605 Lipoa Parkway, Kihei, to the south of Kaanapali.
